Buffalo Attacks Not-So-Innocent Tourists in Yellowstone

Here's a lesson in what NOT to do while visiting our country's beautiful National Parks. I first saw this video on Fox News and thought it important to share for the benefit of any who might be planning a visit to Yellowstone, or any other park where wildlife encounters are close and common.

Let's be clear first that nobody enters Yellowstone National Park without being warned of the danger of approaching wildlife, especially and specifically bison and bears. When we entered the park, the ranger who took our entry fee warned us. We were given maps and literature that contained such warnings on almost every page. And throughout the park, on the highways, are large yellow warning signs declaring the danger inherent in approaching wildlife.

Still, some tourists insist on ignoring the dangers. What they're thinking I don't know. But the video below should persuade any who think they're fast enough, tough enough, or invincible enough to ignore the numerous warnings.

Pay particular attention at the 45 second mark of the video and you'll notice these park visitors apparently threw a stick or similar object at the buffalo as they approached. Not only did they disobey rules and warnings against approaching the animal, they intentionally agitated the huge beast.

It's no surprise the animal charged and this woman and her friend are extremely lucky to have escaped without more serious injury.

When you visit our National Parks, heed the warnings and obey the rules. They're there to preserve the wilderness so all may enjoy it, and to protect those who don't naturally respect it.
